So you’re probably wondering what exactly is an allergy?  Allergies are a common enough condition but understanding exactly what is happening in the body will help you to determine which allergy remedy is right for you.  Your allergy symptoms may be completely different from anyone else you know who suffers from allergies.  Your immune system is an amazing response system that fights off nasty invaders, such as viruses or infections.  Every time your immune system discovers a potential threat, it creates an antibody that will fight it off if ever it should attack.  Allergies are caused by the immune systems response to a harmless item that it perceives as a threat, such as dust or pollen.  This overreaction is why it causes allergies to develop.  It is not clear why some people develop allergies and others do not.  A genetic predisposition accounts for some, but there is an environmental factor is well.  Modern western living is believed to play a large part.  Some people also believe that are being overly hygienic is robbing our bodies the ability of developing an immunity to harmless bacteria.

But regardless of the causes of your allergies most treatments are deemed at reducing or preventing symptoms not curing an actual allergy.  The only treatment that comes close to curing an allergy is receiving allergy shots in greeted doses of a particular allergen that causes your body distress with the idea of eventually building up on tolerance to this allergen overtime.

Some people are lucky enough to only suffer from allergies during a particular season.  Other people–myself included–suffer from allergies year round.

It is important to know the difference between food allergies and food intolerance.  If food allergy causes the severe reaction such as swelling hives or even anaphylaxis which is a condition that could be fatal if treatment is not obtained quickly.  A person that suffers from a food intolerance may complain of a headache diarrhea bloating nausea aching muscles or fatigue.

Knowing what your triggers are and how to prevent them can go a long way in finding allergy remedies that may even cure allergies for you.
