Dog allergies, as well as any other type of allergy, are a result of a certain antigen that triggers the situation, and they are known as “allergens”. To further decrease the chance of getting dog allergies, keep the dog away from the bedroom and also make sure to close the bedroom door and other air passages to the bedroom. Keep the dog away from carpeted floors and other areas with thick fabrics where dog hairs can easily stick.  Frequent use of vacuum cleaners equipped with a HEPA filter is also a good way to significantly decrease the chance of getting dog allergies due to allergens.

In addition, there are newly innovated dog allergy treatments available. Immunotherapy treatment is one of the possible dog allergy treatments available, which aims to desensitize the patient to the allergens that trigger their allergies. This treatment does not benefit food allergy sufferers, but was proven effective in treating seasonal and pet allergies. The method uses series of injections to the patient for the period of six months, and the shots are made on a weekly basis. The injections contain extracts from the allergen itself which has an effect of increasing the body’s tolerance against it, and therefore avoids the accumulation of allergies.
